Verse of the Day 10/1

Through the Bible - Isaiah 24-26, Ephesians 6

Good morning,
The "Today in the Word" devotional from Moody Bible Institute is going through the book of Colossians this month.  The theme for the month is from 2 Peter 3:

2 Peter 3:18 (New King James Version)  but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Many of us are involved in Bible studies, Sunday School classes, and small groups where we hope to "grow in knowledge" of the scriptures.  But how often do we focus on the "growing in grace" part?

For today's verse we'll go to Titus 2 where Paul tells us what the grace of God has "come forward for".

Titus 2:11-12 (Amplified Bible) For the grace of God (His unmerited favor and blessing) has come forward (appeared) for the deliverance from sin and the eternal salvation for all mankind.

12It has trained us to reject and renounce all ungodliness (irreligion) and worldly (passionate) desires, to live discreet (temperate, self-controlled), upright, devout (spiritually whole) lives in this present world,

The two, grace and knowledge, go hand in hand.  They enable us to apply the WWJD principle properly, considering what Jesus would do based on what He has shown us in the Scriptures.

Are you growing with grace and knowledge?

David Jeremiah in a devotional for today writes this prayer, may it be ours as well.

"Keep me faithful in my training regimen, Jesus,

so I may be ready for Your return and,

in the meantime, honor you with my life."

Blessings,
Mike

Titus 2:11-15 (The Message)

11-14God's readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation's available for everyone! We're being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he can be proud of, energetic in goodness.

15Tell them all this. Build up their courage, and discipline them if they get out of line. You're in charge. Don't let anyone put you down.
