Verse of the Day 12/2

Through the Bible - Daniel 1-2, 1 John 4

Good  morning,
Yesterday we considered Jesus' coming as the Prince of Peace.  There are many things that can rob us of peace, His peace in our lives.  It happens when we let, when we allow things like worry, fear, stress and other types of anxiety enter, control and dominate our thoughts and our minds.

A good part of John 14 deals with Jesus' teaching about peace and how we may obtain and keep it.  Verses 1 and 27 form bookends on the subject.  Verse 1 starts us off with:

John 14:1 (Amplified Bible) DO NOT let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.

For today's verse we'll go to the other bookend, verse 27.

John 14:27 (Amplified Bible) 27Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]

The parentheses at the end of verse 27 do a good job of bringing the subject to a conclusion. "Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed" and "don't permit yourselves to be fearful, intimidated, cowardly and unsettled".

This isn't something that can  be done by just deciding to be stoic- (one who is seemingly indifferent to or unaffected by joy, grief, pleasure, or pain).  It comes from what these verses tell us.  Trust in Christ for His peace, He will give it to you.  Don't allow the world to take it from you.

Isaiah 26:3 (English Standard Version) You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

Let, allow your heart and mind to be set on, stayed on Him today.

Blessings,
Mike

John 14:25-31 (New King James Version)

The Gift of His Peace

25 "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, 'I am going away and coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, 'I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I.
29 "And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.
