Verse of the Day 12/1

Through the Bible - Ezekiel 47-48, 1 John 3

Good morning,
We've considered several verses recently which had to do with our walk, with light versus darkness, with peace and with hope.
For today's verse we'll go to Isaiah chapter 9 where we read:  Isaiah 9:2 (Amplified Bible) The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined.

It is a familiar passage in which the prophet Isaiah foretells of the coming Saviour.

Isaiah 9:6-7 (Amplified Bible For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace.

7Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from the [latter] time forth, even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Regarding the "Prince of Peace" Barnes Notes tells us, " This is a Hebrew mode of expression denoting that he would be a peaceful prince. The tendency of his administration would be to restore and perpetuate peace. This expression is used to distinguish him from the mass of kings and princes who have delighted in conquest and blood. In contradistinction from all these, the Messiah would seek to promote universal concord, and the tendency of his reign would be to put an end to wars, and to restore harmony and order to the nations."
Worldly kingdoms were most often established through violent takeovers and wiping out the opposition.  Jesus came to establish His kingdom through peace.  His kingdom will be perpetuated by peace.  Think of those that He has "won over".  Think of the lives of those who previously walked in darkness and saw the Light. Think of those who need to see this Light, experience His peace today and pray for them,

John 14: 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.   NKJV
May the "Prince of Peace" rule in our hearts, bring us peace, and guide us to spread His peace today and this season.
In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV
Isa 9:2-8
2 The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined.

3 You have multiplied the nation
And increased its joy;
They rejoice before You
According to the joy of harvest,
As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden
And the staff of his shoulder,
The rod of his oppressor,
As in the day of Midian.
5 For every warrior's sandal from the noisy battle,
And garments rolled in blood,
Will be used for burning and fuel of fire.

6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
NKJV
