Verse of the Day 3/14

2 Peter 1:5-7  "make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge,knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love."  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Most every day I take a multi vitamin, fish oil, and a prescription to supplement my diet.  The goal is to decrease cholesterol, keep the arteries clean in order to keep the heart and other organs in better condition, in a better position to ward off illness and live a healthy life.  Today's verses challenge us to look at our lives and consider what we are doing to "supplement" our faith.

Can you use a little (or a lot) more goodness, biblical knowledge, self control, love and affection for others in our lives?  How does one go about taking these supplements?  We do so by "living for Jesus".  Spend time in His word, in prayer and thinking how we may be obedient to His call, putting what we learn into practice, and loving others.

When you think of endurance and self control, you may think of a marathon runner.  Our life of faith is a marathon.  This faith is not passive, it is active and takes effort to be applied.  Are we making every effort, striving to add these supplements to our daily walk?

  1. Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
    Striving to please Him in all that I do;
    Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
    This is the pathway of blessing for me.
  2. Living for Jesus through earth's little while,
    My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
    Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
    Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

  3. O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
    For Thou, in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me;
    I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne;
    My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.
  4. 2 Peter 1:8  For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  New International Version (NIV)

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

2 Peter 1:4-8

New International Version (NIV)

he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
