Verse of the Day 9/18

Romans 12:16  Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.[a] Never be wise in your own sight.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Live in harmony with one another.  Aren't these words something that would make a huge difference in our world if there were even an attempt to adhere to them.  Think of the discord and unbalance in the world around us, in government,  in families and even within the church.

When I hear or read the word harmony, I think of listening to a duet, quartet or possibly even a choir.  Everyone is on the same page of the same song.  The notes song may be different but they were arranged by the composer to compliment each other.  The conductor directs the choir so that not only are they on the same page and note, but they are in time, the sounds are sweet and clear.  So it should be in our lives, especially within the church.  We are not cookie cutter Christians.  We all have different gifts but they are to be used in harmony.  We have the Bible as our songbook.  God is the author and composer, the Holy Spirit is our guide and conductor.  If we are following His lead there will be harmony.

The rest of the verse goes into some components that are necessary in our lives to bring this about.  Not to be "haughty" or think too highly of ourselves, not to be wise in our own eyes, we don't have all the answers.  We are not to be wise in our own sight but to seek a wisdom that only comes from God.  Perhaps spending some time in the Proverbs or James in the New Testament would bring some harmony in our lives today.

James 1:25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.  New Living Translation (NLT)

In Christ,
Mike

Romans 12:15-17

New Living Translation (NLT)

15 Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with each other. Don't be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don't think you know it all!

17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.
