Verse of the Day 9/3

Romans 10:8-9 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  New International Version (NIV)

Yesterday's verses revealed Paul's heart's desire for salvation for even his enemies, those opposed to Jesus' message and his offer of salvation.  In today's verses he describes how this salvation comes about.  Once again, he reveals that it comes about by faith and not by works and following rules and regulations in themselves.  It is a matter of the heart.

John Piper writes, "The resurrection of Jesus is God's declaration to Israel and to the world that we cannot work our way to glory but that he intends to do the impossible to get us there.  The resurrection is the promise of God that all who trust in Jesus will be the beneficiaries of God's power to lead us in paths of righteousness and through the valley of death.

Therefore, believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead is much more than accepting a fact.  It means being confident that God is for you, that he will save you for eternal joy."

What type of valley are you facing or in the middle of today.  Be aware that God is for you, that His Word is near you, in your heart and in your mouth.  You believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.  Believe it in your heart and confess it with your mouth.  Believe that He will lift you up when you need Him, He is for you.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

Romans 10:6-10

New International Version (NIV)

But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'"[a] (that is, to bring Christ down) "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'"[b] (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,"[c] that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
