Verse of the Day 2/13

Haggai 1:5  Now, the Lord of Hosts says this: "Think carefully about[a] your ways:  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Much of the southeast U.S. has been hit with a major winter storm.  There are plenty of school and work closings, airports have been shut down and people have been told to stay home if possible.  If you do venture out you are asked to dress warmly, drive carefully, take emergency food water and blankets with you in case you get stranded, take extra caution because the roads are treacherous.

Today's verse is a warning to God's people to take a look at their ways, their walk, the way they conduct their lives, to think it over before proceeding.

Day's like this can be a good time for doing so.  You are home, there is a break from the normal routine.  Take a look at that routing.  We spend much with not much to show for it, we eat and drink and over indulge in both cases, and what do we get?  Our lives may be compared to a bucket with holes in it, leaking out just about everything that we put into it.

As we try do stay warm and safe today, may we consider our ways, may we be working more on investing our time and efforts into things that will truly last and won't leak out as fast as we pour in.  Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, and God-provisions (The Message)

Matthew 6:30-33  "If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.  The Message (MSG)
In Christ,
Mike

Haggai 1:5-6

The Message (MSG)

5-6 And then a little later, God-of-the-Angel-Armies spoke out again:

"Take a good, hard look at your life.
    Think it over.
You have spent a lot of money,
but you haven't much to show for it.
You keep filling your plates,
but you never get filled up.
You keep drinking and drinking and drinking,
    but you're always thirsty.
You put on layer after layer of clothes,
    but you can't get warm.
And the people who work for you,
what are they getting out of it?
Not much—
    a leaky, rusted-out bucket, that's what.
