Verse of the Day 9/2

Philippians 4:19-20 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Our Pastor Bob referenced today's verse at the close of his sermon last Sunday.  Paul wrote these words as he was bringing his wonderful message to the Philippian church to a close.  Aside from the final greetings, his encouragement to his readers then and now was, that God "will take care of everything you need" (The Message).

Think about some of the things that you "need" today.  It could be financial, spiritual, physical or emotional, but God has the power and ability to meet any and all of those needs for you today.  Once again it is important to remember where Paul was when he wrote these words. He was in prison, yet he had confidence in God that he would meet his needs based on his past experience.  Paul's attitude and his confidence in the midst of his circumstances makes the message all that more powerful for those who believe.

My son Jeff, who depends on others for virtually all of his needs was saying woo hoo! and amen! as he heard those words.  He is someone that takes these words to heart and believes them, thanking God daily for this "stupendous" life (his actual words).  God is most glorified when those in seemingly dire or hopeless conditions can boast of God's provision for all of their needs.

The final thought for this morning is that he supplies from "his riches".  He is not providing from meager means, His resources are unlimited, and "He abounds", His love and grace overflow for those who truly rely on Him to provide for their needs, for the Father's glory, now and forever.  Can you say "amen!", "yes!" , or perhaps woo hoo! to that?

In Christ,
Mike

Philippians 4:18-20The Message (MSG)

18-20 And now I have it all—and keep getting more! The gifts you sent with Epaphroditus were more than enough, like a sweet-smelling sacrifice roasting on the altar, filling the air with fragrance, pleasing God no end. You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Our God and Father abounds in glory that just pours out into eternity. Yes.
