Verse of the Day 9/99

Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days
    that we may get a heart of wisdom.  English Standard Version (ESV)

We've all heard the term "indelible ink" often used in reference to a type of magic marker.  The reason it was developed was so that what was written would last and not fade away.  Psalm 90 was attributed to Moses, a song of Moses.  His life, lived for God left an indelible mark on history, on faith.

Last night, our church held the kick off for our men's ministry  for the fall season.  The Man-Up event was well attended.  Pastor Bob's message was about the "exchange" the importance of passing the baton of faith to the next generation.  The theme goes well with today's verse.  We are to live to make each day count, to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, and to pass it on and share it with others to the best of our ability, whatever it may be.

Adoniram Johnson writes, "It is too late to mend the days which are past, but the future is in our power.  Let us then, each morning, resolve to send the day into eternity in such a garb as we shall wish to wear forever.  And at night, let us reflect that one more day is irrevocably gone - indelibly marked."

May we head out into this day with the intention of leaving a mark and through God's grace, at the end of the day leave an indelible mark  in someone's life, passing the faith, passing the baton.  Lord teach us to live  wisely and well.  (v.12 The Message).

In Christ,
Mike

Psalm 90:12-17The Message (MSG)

12-17 Oh! Teach us to live well!
    Teach us to live wisely and well!
Come back, God—how long do we have to wait?—
    and treat your servants with kindness for a change.
Surprise us with love at daybreak;
    then we'll skip and dance all the day long.
Make up for the bad times with some good times;
    we've seen enough evil to last a lifetime.
Let your servants see what you're best at—
    the ways you rule and bless your children.
And let the loveliness of our Lord, our God, rest on us,
    confirming the work that we do.
    Oh, yes. Affirm the work that we do!
