Verse of the Day 10/20

Proverbs 16:20-21Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,

  and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.  21The wise of heart is called discerning,

    and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.  English Standard Version (ESV)

In having daily devotions and reading from God's Word, we are giving thought to His Word, seeking it's meaning and seeking guidance and  wisdom from it to be used to live our lives, for Him.  The reason that I send out these devotionals is that you also will give thought to His Word.

Isaiah 55:11 says, "so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."

The verse in Proverbs literally says "gives thought to a matter", for the Christian is is one and the same, it is applying God's thoughts as we find in His Word to the daily situations in life.  In doing so we will discover "good" and be blessed for trusting in God and His Word.  His words to us are life, health and peace.

As I read this verse and had these thoughts, an old hymn came to mind, one which I have probably not heard or thought of for many years.  Nevertheless, it came  to mind today - "Wonderful Words of Life"

Sing them over again to me,
wonderful words of life;
let me more of their beauty see,
wonderful words of life;
words of life and beauty
teach me faith and duty.
Refrain:
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.

Christ, the blessed one, gives to all
wonderful words of life;
sinner, list to the loving call,
wonderful words of life;

Give thought to His Word today, apply them to the matters and what matters in your life today, words of life and beauty that teach us faith and duty, wonderful words indeed. -- In Christ, Mike Folllow the Verse of the Day blog at http://mikesvotd.blogspot.com Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. Proverbs 16:20-24The Message (MSG)

20 It pays to take life seriously;
    things work out when you trust in God.

21 A wise person gets known for insight;
    gracious words add to one's reputation.

22 True intelligence is a spring of fresh water,
    while fools sweat it out the hard way.

23 They make a lot of sense, these wise folks;
    whenever they speak, their reputation increases.

24 Gracious speech is like clover honey—
    good taste to the soul, quick energy for the body.
