Verse of the Day 10/3

Psalm 4:8 I will both lie down and sleep in peace,

for You alone, Lord, make me live in safety.    Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Most of us would admit to having nights when we have a hard time falling asleep or perhaps waking up in the middle of the night with things "racing" through our minds.  Our thoughts go to and fro about all kinds of things and try though may, we cannot fall or go back to sleep.  It might be waking up to the pouring rain and worrying about your basement flooding, it might be worrying about health issues of loved ones, or challenges at work with approaching deadlines, or it may be just the busyness of the schedule for the day ahead.

Throughout the Bible we have examples of God followers, people very much like us, that have faced a myriad of challenges that have found the only way to find that peace to find the rest they needed was to go to God, go to Jesus, first, throw your cares upon Him and lean on Him for peace and rest.  Daniel spent a night in the lion's den and was able to rest, while the king who had thrown him in there had a sleepless night.  David faced all kinds of trials but learned to put his faith and trust in God.  Paul and Silas may not have been sleeping but they did find peace and were singing songs of  praise when they were delivered from prison.

The day may have been full of stress, coming and going in many directions, but The Message (below) sums it up like this "At day's end I'm ready for sound sleep,
For you, God, have put my life back together."   May we realize that God has "put our  lives together", He is in control, and we can rest, find peace and rest in Him.

Isaiah 26:3English Standard Version (ESV)

You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
    because he trusts in you.

Psalm 4:5-8The Message (MSG)

4-5 Complain if you must, but don't lash out.
Keep your mouth shut, and let your heart do the talking.
Build your case before God and wait for his verdict.

6-7 Why is everyone hungry for more? "More, more," they say.
"More, more."
I have God's more-than-enough,
More joy in one ordinary day

7-8 Than they get in all their shopping sprees.
At day's end I'm ready for sound sleep,
For you, God, have put my life back together.
