Verse of the Day 5/7

Verse of the Day 5/7

Luke 6:12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.    New International Version (NIV)

Yesterday, being Saturday, I'm sure that many of you had a lot of things on the agenda and you may have been hard pressed to get it all in and done.  Perhaps something were left undone as as the day came to a conclusion you thought man, it has been "one of those days".  Jesus must have had that feeling often.  In today's passage he had just come through days with healing and dealing with the antagonism of the pharisees and what did he do?  Did he look for someone to complain to about the circumstances?  No, he went to a garden, he sought a sanctuary, a place to be alone with God the Father.

What do we do when we've had one of those days?  As usual, we can learn a lot from Jesus and his actions.  We too, should seek a sanctuary even if it just be a quiet room, perhaps on our favorite chair or on the back porch.  Seek him, turn to him and prepare your hearts for what he will have you to do.  It is interesting to note that Jesus spent the night in prayer before God and out of that came the calling of his disciples.  They would help him in his ministry in the coming years and become his family.

I'm reminded of a clip from the old Honeymooner's TV show from decades ago, we used to watch the reruns and I remember one line that Jackie Gleason, "Ralph Cramden" said to his wife Alice.  He stated "I'm king and you're nothin"  to which Alice aptly replied "well I guess that makes you the king of nothin".  Jesus was the coming King, He still reigns but by his actions after his prayer you might say that his attitude towards his disciples was more like "I'm King and you are somethin', you're a child of the King."  May we remember that the next time that we have one of those days.  May we seek him, the King of all days for rest, guidance and hope for the coming day.

King of all days
Oh so highly exalted
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth You created
All for love?s sake became poor

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You?re my God
