Verse of the Day 7/7

Verse of the Day 7/7

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.     English Standard Version (ESV)

Over the last few days we've considered how Job longed for his words to be recorded, written in a book "better yet, chiseled in stone".  Stone was thought of as something permanent.  Jabez prayed that God would enlarge his territory, his sphere of influence.  God responded to Job's longings, He answered Jabez' prayer and both are recorded in His word which will stand forever, long after any rock will stand when this earth passes away.

God's Word is permanent, it is eternal and it will stand.   David Jeremiah writes, "The God of Scripture is eternal and omniscient. He encircles time and space, and He knows the future as fully as the past. He possesses absolute and ultimate power, and He has written the script of the ages. That script is called Scripture, and studying biblical prophecy is nothing less than an investigation into God's plan for the future.. "

There are many uncertainties in our world today and many people do not know where to turn for answers.  The wise will turn to, and relay on God's Word which will stand the test of time throughout eternity.  The verse and these thoughts brought me to the last stanzas of Steve Green's "We Believe".

Though the earth be removed
And time be no more
These truths are secure
God's word shall endure
Whatever may change, these things are sure . . . We believe

So if the mountains are cast down into the plains
When kingdoms all crumble, this one remains
Our faith is not subject to seasons of man
With our fathers we proclaim
We believe our Lord will come as he said
The land and the sea will give up their dead
His children will reign with Him as their head

We believe
We believe

"Sky and earth will wear out; my words won't wear out."   Matthew 24:35 The Message

Matthew 24:35The Message (MSG)

32-35 "Take a lesson from the fig tree. From the moment you notice its buds form, the merest hint of green, you know summer's just around the corner. So it is with you: When you see all these things, you'll know he's at the door. Don't take this lightly. I'm not just saying this for some future generation, but for all of you. This age continues until all these things take place. Sky and earth will wear out; my words won't wear out.
