Verse of the Day 11/22

Verse of the Day 11/22

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in everything,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Happy Thanksgiving!

George Washington, our first president encouraged the celebration of Thanksgiving and Abraham Lincoln officially instituted it as a day of national celebration in 1863. It is a day set aside to give thanks.

In today's verse, the Apostle Paul encourages us to "give thanks in everything". In every season, in every season of like, through the challenges, through the joys and even in the sorrows, to be able to give thanks.

Perhaps the first place to start is for God's faithfulness, the grace that He gives us to see us through "everything" that this life has to offer us or throws at us. As those thoughts came to mind, so did the old hymn "Great is Thy Faithfulness".

Great is Thy faithfulness," O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

"Great is Thy faithfulness!" "Great is Thy faithfulness!"
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
"Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord, unto me!
2
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
3
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

As you spend time with family and friends today, be thankful, count your blessings and praise God for His faithfulness in this season of your life.

Blessings,

Mike

1 Thessalonians 5:15-28 The Message (MSG)

Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.

16-18 Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

19-22 Don't suppress the Spirit, and don't stifle those who have a word from the Master. On the other hand, don't be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what's good. Throw out anything tainted with evil.

23-24 May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he'll do it!

25-27 Friends, keep up your prayers for us. Greet all the followers of Jesus there with a holy embrace. And make sure this letter gets read to all the brothers and sisters. Don't leave anyone out.

28 The amazing grace of Jesus Christ be with you!
