Verse of the Day 1/21

Verse of the Day 1/21

Galatians 3:28-29   There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.  New King James Version (NKJV)

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrating the life of the pastor and civil rights activist of the 1950's and 60's.  He is the only non-president to have a national holiday honoring him.  His was a message of equality and his "I have a dream" speech is probably one of the most well known speeches of our time.

The following prayer should be a reminder to all Christians that God's Word calls us; as Christians, to do more than sing and pray, but to work together towards unity as God's children.

O God,… we thank Thee for Thy Church, founded upon Thy Word, that challenges us to do more than sing and pray, but go out and work as though the very answer to our prayers depended on us and not upon Thee… Help us to realize that man was created to shine like the stars and live on through all eternity. Keep us, we pray, in perfect peace, help us to walk together, pray together, sing together, and live together until that day when all God's children, Black, White, Red, and Yellow, will rejoice in one common band of humanity in the kingdom of our Lord and of our God, we pray. Amen.

— Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King, and God's Word, calls us "to put on Christ" (below) and to love another, walking, praying and singing together,  proving to the world that we are His disciples.

John 13:34-35 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."  New Living Translation (NLT)

Galatians 3:25-29 New Living Translation (NLT)

25 And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.

26 For you are all children[a] of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.[b] 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile,[c] slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children[d] of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God's promise to Abraham belongs to you.
