Verse of the Day 2/22

Verse of the Day 2/22

Lamentations 3:22-23 Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness. New King James Version (NKJV)

I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a lot of things on my mind. I couldn't fall back to sleep, so what did I do? I turned to God in prayer. As I prayed and thanked God for His mercies, which are new every morning (even at 3 am in the morning), these verses came to mind which then led me to the old hymn "Great is Thy Faithfulness" which springs out of these verses.

Great is Thy faithfulness," O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

"Great is Thy faithfulness!" "Great is Thy faithfulness!"
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
"Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord, unto me!
2
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
3
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

As I considered the second verse and the sun, moon and stars I looked back over the past couple of years and recall how I had witnessed the total eclipse of the sun, recently seen the total eclipse of the moon and have seen "shooting stars" (actually meteorites, but it doesn't take away from glorifying God in them). I've stood in awe of His Creation and have celebrated and worshipped our Creator God.

Then the third stanza hit me in the same way. God's pardon of our sins and His gift of peace through troubled times are just as worthy of awe and praise as is His wonders in creation.

Yes, great is His faithfulness and I think along with King David in Psalm, what is man, who am I that God is mindful of me? But He is, praise God for it. Lord I need your peace today, and yes, your mercies are new every morning, which give bright hope for tomorrow.

Blessings,

Mike

Lamentations 3:19-26 New Living Translation (NLT)

19 The thought of my suffering and homelessness
is bitter beyond words.[a]
20 I will never forget this awful time,
as I grieve over my loss.
21 Yet I still dare to hope
when I remember this:
22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends![b]
His mercies never cease.
23 Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
24 I say to myself, "The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!"
25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him,
to those who search for him.
26 So it is good to wait quietly
for salvation from the Lord.
