Verse of the Day 4/10

Verse of the Day 4/10

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17  For the Lord himself will appear with the declaration of victory, the shout of an archangel, and the trumpet blast of God. He will descend from the heavenly realm[a] and command those who are dead in Christ to rise first. 17 Then we who are alive will join them, transported together in clouds[b] to have an encounter[c] with the Lord in the air, and we will be forever joined with the Lord.    The Passion Translation (TPT)

Pastor John Piper asked the question "what is the loudest verse in the Bible?" , his answer was 1 Thessalonians 4:16 which speaks of the Lord descending from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet of God."  This verse speaks about the triumphant return of Jesus, the second coming.

I've been reading some devotionals recently which deal with Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem for which we celebrate palm Sunday, leading up to Easter.  Then, He came riding on the foal of a donkey, not in a great display of power or might.  His second coming will be vastly different.  It will be a loud declaration of who He is; what He has accomplished; and His establishment of His eternal kingdom.  For His followers it will be the greatest celebration ever, for His deniers it will be their worst nightmare.

The Apostle John had a similar vision in Revelation 21 when He writes:

Revelation 21:3-5 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said [a]to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."  New King James Version (NKJV)

No matter what we face in life, for those of us who have been redeemed, we look forward to that second coming; ready to shout Hallelujahs to the king!

The marketplace is empty
No more traffic in the streets
All the builders' tools are silent
No more time to harvest wheat
Busy housewives cease their labors
In the courtroom no debate
Work on earth is all suspended
As the King comes thro' the gate
O the King is coming
The King is coming
I just heard the trumpets sounding
And now His face I see
O the King is coming
The King is coming
Praise God, He's coming for me
Happy faces line the hallways
Those whose lives have been redeemed
Broken homes that He has mended
Those from prison He has freed
Little children and the aged
Hand in hand stand all aglow
Who were crippled, broken, ruined
Clad in garments white as snow
O the King is coming
The King is coming
I just heard the trumpets sounding
And now His face I see
O the King is coming
The King is coming
Praise God, He's coming for me    (The King is Coming - Gaither Vocal Band)

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Comfort of Christ's Coming

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen [a]asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who [b]sleep in Jesus.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are [c]asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
