Verse of the Day 9/10

Verse of the Day 9/10

2 Corinthians 12:8-9    Three times I begged the Lord to make this suffering go away. But he replied, "My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak." So if Christ keeps giving me his power, I will gladly brag about how weak I am.  Contemporary English Version (CEV)

We all experience the ups and downs in life which include trial and turmoil due to illness, loss and possibly persecution  and the Apostle Paul was very familiar with all of these. He had his good days and bad days but through it all he learned to draw the strength required to face it all from the Lord Jesus Christ.  Looking back in your life can you see times when you prayed and it didn't appear that God was listening only to learn and see later that God had a plan and His plan was to show His power through your circumstances?  It may be difficult to accept and understand His purposes but we are called to trust, lean and depend upon Him.

Grant Tuller penned the following poem of how God weaves the circumstances of our life into a tapestry.

My life is but a weaving between my God and me

I do not choose the colors; He worketh steadily.

Oft times He weaveth sorrow, and I in foolish pride

Forget He sees the upper-, and I the under-side.

Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly

Will God unroll the canvas and explain the reasons why

The dark threads are as needful in a skillful weaver's hand

As the threads of gold and silver, in the pattern he has planned.

I've been in the textile industry for close to forty years and have been able to see how weaving is done, especially complex jacquard weaves  which can create a tapestry.  The yarns themselves may not appear to be anything spectacular, but when woven together, they can bring out remarkable beauty.

If today is the best day of your life, it won't last. Tonight might be an inch short of hopeless; it won't last either. Whatever has brought you to this moment is only part of the story of your life and relationship. The rest is yet to come. Put all of it—dark thorns and shining threads—into God's hands, and he will sustain you.

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,

in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 English Standard Version (ESV)

Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
