Verse of the Day 9/11

Verse of the Day 9/11/20

1 Corinthians 15:57-58  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.  New King James Version

Yesterday we considered from 2 Corinthians 12 how God is weaving a tapestry in and through the circumstances in our lives, even or perhaps more so through the trials and challenges in our lives and to our faith. In today's verses we have a common theme found in the New Testament, that of being overcomers through our faith in Jesus Christ leading to victory over all that has and will come our way.

Paul challenges us to have 3 traits – being steadfast and staying the course in our faith knowing that He will see us through; being immoveable, rock solid as we take a stand against our problems and our enemies; and abounding, overflowing in serving the Lord and helping others to be overcomers as well.

Many songs come to mind from these thoughts such as "Faith is the Victory", but I'll share something more recent from Mandisa which seems fitting.

Whatever it is you may be going through
I know he's not gonna let it get the best of you

Feeling like it's hopeless
That's when he reminds you
That you're an overcomer
You're an overcomer

Everybody's been down
Hit the bottom, hit the ground
Ooh, You're not alone
Just take a breath, don't forget
Hang on to his promises
He wants you to know

You're an overcomer
Stay in the fight 'til the final round
You're not going under
'Cause God is holding you right now
You might be down for a moment
Feeling like it's hopeless
That's when he reminds you
That you're an overcomer
You're an overcomer

We don't need to feel defeated, through Christ we're overcomers.

In Christ,

Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,

in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

1 Corinthians 15:51-58 English Standard Version (ESV)

51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:

"Death is swallowed up in victory."
55 "O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?"

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
