Verse of the Day 9/3

Verse of the Day 9/3

Proverbs 22:3   A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.

The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.   New Living Translation (NLT)

Prudent is defined as "acting with or showing care and thought for the future."  Someone who is prudent is someone who carefully thinks about what they are doing, perhaps weighing the pro's and con's before making decisions especially important ones that will likely impact their future.  Decisions are made not just for the hear and now but with a look ahead and beyond ourselves as often, those decisions will have an impact on others; our spouses, children, friends and co-workers.

The important thing is that one takes the time to "think" before making decisions, or not even making decisions but simply reacting to events.  Read the verses below from Philippians 4, they are an example of the types of things that we are to think about when making decisions.

Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned[a] and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.   English Standard Version (ESV)

The simpleton blindly makes decisions without thinking and suffers for it.  The wise, or prudent person and puts those proper thoughts into action will carry God's peace with them as they go.

What decisions are you facing today?  Think about what is the right thing, the prudent thing to do and it will go better for you and you will have God's peace about it.

Proverbs 22:1-6 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Value of a Good Name

22 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

The rich and the poor have this in common,
The Lord is the maker of them all.

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself,
But the simple pass on and are punished.

By humility and the fear of the Lord
Are riches and honor and life.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;
He who guards his soul will be far from them.

Train up a child in the way he should go,
[a]And when he is old he will not depart from it.
