Verse of the Day 10/10

Verse of the Day 10/10

Colossians 1:15-16 English Standard Version

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by  him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

Yesterday we considered in 1 Timothy 2:5 how "there is one God and one mediator between God and men", our Lord Jesus Christ. Today;s verses were in my read through the New Testament plan and give a little more explanation of Jesus, the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16).  He came to earth as a walking and breathing express image of God in the flesh.  Yet, the verses also indicate that by Him all things were created, indicating that He was there from the beginning.  It is another one of the great "all things" verses in the Bible.

The Greek word used for image is "eikon" from which we get the word icon. It means "copy" or "likeness".  Paul is emphasizing that if we want to see God, we see Him represented by Jesus in the New Testament showing us "the way" to live.

Continuing on to verse 17 we read that "in Him all things hold together".  From the beginning, Jesus was there not only creating, but He was and still is holding all things together in the world and in our lives.  From that first cup of coffee over His Word in the morning to our last prayer in the evening, He is there "holding all things together."

Blessings,
Mike

Colossians 1:15-20
New Living Translation

Christ Is Supreme

15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,[a]
16 for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can't see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
18 Christ is also the head of the church,
    which is his body.
He is the beginning,
supreme over all who rise from the dead.[b]

So he is first in everything.
19 For God in all his fullness
was pleased to live in Christ,
20 and through him God reconciled
    everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ's blood on the cross.
