Verse of the Day 11/18

Verse of the Day 11/18

Hebrews 11:6.  New King James Version
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Today's verse comes from Hebrews 11 and the great "Hall of Faith".  Alongside Romans 8, it is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible.  I read the chapter on a day that would turn out to be the most overwhelming and life altering days of my life: that of our son Jeff's accident which left him permanently disabled.  That event could have been tied to that chapter in my mind in a negative way but instead it has been something to hold onto.

John Piper has stated "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him".  You can read through chapter 11 and see this on display in the hearts and lives of the people chronicled in this great chapter.  They, along with others through history who have held onto their faith can be an inspiration for us to hold onto.  We can also look to family members and church family members in the same way.

We can have this faith as an anchor of our souls when we put our faith and trust in Him, and praise Him through the storms of life.

I'm reminded of the Bill Gaither song "Because He Lives", it reflects that attitude of one who pleases God by trusting in HIm and glorifying Him in the process.

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone,
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

Blessings,
Mike

Hebrews 11:1-6
New King James Version

By Faith We Understand

11 Now faith is the [a]substance of things hoped for, the [b]evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.

By faith we understand that the

worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Faith at the Dawn of History

By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.

By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
