Verse of the Day 10/15

Verse of the Day 10/15

Psalm 37:3-4
New King James Version

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37 came up in my daily reading in the Psalms yesterday.  Usually, when I read this pslam I tend to focus on "do not fret" which is brought up 3 times (verses 1,7,8) but in reading through it this time, today's verses stood out.  Recently in John 14 we considered how Jesus said "let now your hearts be troubled", literally "agitated. Today's verses give us a way, through trusting the Lord that we can avoid being agitated, fretting and being troubled.

We are to trust in the Lord.  Turn those things over to Him and concentrate on "doing good", walking by the Spirit.  Feeding on His faithfulness, drawing from His Word and seeking Him in prayer and taking delight in doing so.  When we do so we will be given the desires of your heart.

James Smith wrote:

Sin has taken our attention off of God, and fixed it upon ourselves and the things around us.
Grace calls our attention off of everything else, to fix it upon God. It directs us to . . .
  look to the Lord,
  come to the Lord,
  trust in the Lord,
  wait on the Lord,
  hope in the Lord, and
  even delight in the Lord.

"Delight yourself in the Lord." Take delight, not in health, or wealth, or position, or friends, or in anything that is changeable--but in the unchangeable Lord.

Delight yourself in His glorious character--as gracious, merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 37:1-7
New King James Version

The Heritage of the Righteous and the Calamity of the Wicked

A Psalm of David.

37 Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
