Verse of the Day 10/9    

Deuteronomy 13:4

New King James Version

4 You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.

Today's verse was the Bible Gateway verse of the day.  It fit in well with our Monday Bible study which was in Johnn 14 where in verse 15 we read that "if you love me, you will keep my commandments.".  What first comes to mind are the 10 commandments, but it is much more than that.  In John, what comes to mind are all of Jesus teachings and actions.  Other scriptures such as the Sermon on the Mount may also come to mind.

The sentiment is the same in all of these passages.  We are to love God and "keep Him" as He is "keeping us".  As you head out this week and have an opportunity to walk in the brisk fall weather, may you walk with the Lord in the light of His word,.

When we walk with the Lord   In the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way;   While we do His good will,   He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey.
	Trust and obey, For there's no other way To be happy in Jesus,   But to trust and obey.
2	Not a shadow can rise,   Not a cloud in the skies, But His smile quickly drives it away;   Not a doubt or a fear,   Not a sigh or a tear, Can abide while we trust and obey.
3	Not a burden we bear,   Not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay;   Not a grief or a loss,   Not a frown or a cross, But is blest if we trust and obey.

Punishment of Apostates

13 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods'—which you have not known—'and let us serve them,' 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 You shall walk[a] after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. 5 But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall put away the evil from your midst.
