Verse of the Day 5/29

Zephaniah 2:3 Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land,
you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
    perhaps you will be sheltered
on the day of the Lord's anger. New International Version (NIV)

I read today's verse in a devotional this morning.  It is one that makes you stop and take notice.  The passage speaks of a "shameless" nation and today's verse speaks of what one of his followers should do in such a situation.

When you see all of the turmoil around us in this world today and even in our nation with the scandals in government, the things that people take a stand, fight and lobby for that are contrary to God's Word and will, you wonder how long he will put up with it, put up with us, before doing something.

As Christians we should take this verse to heart and act upon it.  We are called to seek righteousness, which is being in right standing with God, acting, living and walking according to His Word and His will.  We are to do so in humility, not acting proudly, but humbly doing right.  This doesn't mean that we are to live our faith in secret, as secret agent Christians, but that we live in love and mercy, showing compassion, to walk as Jesus walked.  In doing so, "perhaps we will be sheltered" when the Lord reveals His anger.

May we be able to say, I  "Live What I Believe"

These are the days
For the children of faith
To stand up and be counted
Now is the time
For the light in us to shine
On whoever's around it

One life can be the proof
Of the hope that is You

I'm gonna live what I believe
I'm gonna walk that line
If it costs me everything
I'm gonna stand for what is right
So that everyone can see
It's Jesus that they need
I'm gonna live what I believe   - Russ Lee

In Christ,
Mike

Zephaniah 2:1-3

English Standard Version (ESV)

Judgment on Judah's Enemies

Gather together, yes, gather,
    O shameless nation,
before the decree takes effect[a]
—before the day passes away like chaff—
before there comes upon you
the burning anger of the Lord,
before there comes upon you
the day of the anger of the Lord.
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land,
    who do his just commands;[b]
seek righteousness; seek humility;
    perhaps you may be hidden
on the day of the anger of the Lord.
