Verse of the Day 5/8

1 Peter 5:7  Casting the [a]whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, [b]once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you [c]watchfully.   Amplified Bible (AMP)

When I read the word "casting" a couple of different images come to mind.  The first is standing on the bank of a river and casting a lure, or a worm out into the water with a fishing rod.  The other is the image from Bible times with the fishermen casting their nets.  That is not what "casting" or cast means here.  In his commentary on this verse, John MacArthur points out that "casting  means to throw something on something, as to throw a blanket on a donkey."

There are plenty of things in our daily lives that can bring us anxiety, health issues, relational troubles, finances, work or any other number of concerns that take away our joy.  The Amplified Bible tells us to take all of them, once and for all, and give them over, place them on Jesus.  He will take care of them, take care of you and ease your troubled mind.

The previous verse (6) indicates just what it takes to be able to do this, humble yourself, the Amplified Bible says "demote yourself", take yourself off of the throne of your life and give it over to Jesus.  He cares for you more than anyone in the world, watchfully.   Won't you trust Him?

What has got you tied up in knots today?  Cast your cares upon Jesus.  Let Him untie the knots.

In Christ,
Mike

1 Peter 5:6-8

Amplified Bible (AMP)

Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,

Casting the [a]whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, [b]once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you [c]watchfully.

Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[d]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
