Verse of the Day 5/31

Acts 4:20  But we [ourselves] cannot help telling what we have seen and heard.  Amplified Bible (AMP)

Have you ever gone somewhere, perhaps on a wonderful vacation, seen a great 7th game of a World Series, or perhaps been delivered, cured from a disease or injury and couldn't wait to tell friends and family about it?  That is the attitude of the heart of Peter and John in Acts 4.  Nothing could stand in their way, not even the threat of being thrown (back) in jail.  They had to tell it, they had a case of what an old preacher called "the can't help it's".

The events that I described earlier may we worth telling to others.  But how about the things that God has done for us in our lives.  Acts of love, mercy and grace in saving, healing and delivering us.  Do you make telling of the "matchless grace of Jesus a part of your speech?

Read the words to the old hymn "Wonderful Grace of Jesus" below, sing it in your heart or out loud if you know the tune.  May it inspire you to have a case of the "can't help its", to tell others of what you have seen, heard and experienced in Jesus.

Wonderful grace of Jesus, greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it, where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden, setting my spirit free,
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching to all the lost,
By it I have been pardoned, saved to the uttermost;
Chains have been torn asunder, giving me liberty,
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power, making him God's dear child.
Purchasing peace and heaven for all eternity;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

REFRAIN: Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain,
All-sufficient grace for even me;
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame;
O magnify the precious name of Jesus, praise His name!

In Christ,
Mike

Acts 4:19-21

English Standard Version (ESV)

19 But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, 20 for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard." 21 And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened.
