Verse of the Day 6/2
10 The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Many of the olld translations say something to the effect of "I come that they may have life and have it more abundantly". John 10:10 is commonly thought of in regards to the abundant life. This morning, I read the verse in a devotional which used the New Living Testament. The words used in the NLT say that Jesus came to give us a "rich and satisfying life.".
Most of you are aware that my wife Jean of 43 years recently went to be with Jesus. When I see those words "a rich and satisfying life", I think of her. In spite of her battle with cancer, she was hopeful, joyful, smiling eminating form a purpose driven heart. She most often signed letters or emails with "always with hope".
The "rich" as spoken of in this verse does not refer to money or physical possesions, it refers to what I saw in virtually alll of the responses to Jean's obituary which was recently posted. Hundreds of people repsonded in how she had impacted their lives. They are a testimony to the riich and satisfying life that she has and is now enjoying exponentially in heaven.
That abundant life that she lived produced that "hope that will surely endure until the passing of time."
O what a wonderful, wonderful day, day I will never forget;
After I'd wandered in darkness away, Jesus my Savior I met.
O what a tender, compassionate friend, He met the need of my heart;
Shadows dispelling, with joy I am telling, He made all the darkness depart.
Chorus
Heaven came down and glory filled my soul, (filled my soul)
When at the cross the Savior made me whole; (made me whole)
My sins were washed away and my night was turned to day,
Heaven came down and glory filled my soul! (filled my soul)
Born of the Spirit with life from above into God's family divine,
Justified fully thru Calvary's love, O what a standing is mine!
And the transaction so quickly was made, when as a sinner I came,
Took of the offer, of grace He did proffer, He saved me, O praise His dear name!
Chorus
Now I've a hope that will surely endure after the passing of time;
I have a future in heaven for sure there in those mansions sublime.
And it's because of that wonderful day, when at the cross I believed;
Riches eternal and blessings supernal, from His precious hand I received.
Blessings,
Mike
Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. NIV
7 so he explained it to them: "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before me were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. 9 Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. 10 The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. 12 A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don't belong to him and he isn't their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. 13 The hired hand runs away because he's working only for the money and doesn't really care about the sheep.
