Verse of the Day 6/6

Verse of the Day 6/6

James 1:12
New International Version

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

I read today's verse in a devotional thiis morning and as with many verses that I read now after my wife Jean's passing, they take on a different meaning, or at least I relate to them in a way that I hadn't before.  On November 28 of last year we met with a paliative care doctor in regards to Jean's cancer.  The oncologtist had said that there was nothing more that could be done to battle the cancer and she was put in paliative care with the prognosis that she had 3 to 6 months to live and that she would soon be transitioning into home hospice care.  With that as a background Jean wrote her annual Christmas letter to family and friends, in it she referred to 2025 as "the year of perseverence."

She took that to heart and lived the full 6 months to the fullest with as much determination as humanly possible, with joy in accomplishing final goals.  I have no doubt that she received "the crown of life" that the Lord has promised to those who love Him."

The call for me and all of her friends is to pick up the batton and finish the year in perseverence, remembering her and her Father in heaven as we do.

I don't know why the Lord decided to take her early, at least in my mind, but He must have some plans for her in the place that He has prepared for her.

Oh, and I've seen many searching for answers far and wide
But I know we're all searching
For answers only you provide
'Cause you know just what we need
Before we say a word

You're a Good, Good Father
It's who you are, it's who you are, it's who you are
And I'm loved by you
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Blessings,
Mike

James 1:2-12
New International Version

Trials and Temptations

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
