Verse of the Day 6/9
7 "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
I mentioned in yesterday's post how my quiet times have been a constant in my life even in these last months of Jean's battle with cancer. Today's verses were a reminder of why. I chose the New Living Translation because it follows the "perfect" ongoing tense of the original words. For me, it is as if Jesus was standing at the back door and knocking (Rev. 3:20) and asking me if I'll come join Him and then spend that time with Him asking, seeking and knocking for the answers and direction I need in my life.
Eric Alexander writes, " I think the three commands "ask," "seek," and "knock" are a progressive intensification. Repeatedly asking requires perseverance, and still more so does continuous seeking. Persistent knocking suggests an intense desire for entry. " The persistent asking, seeking and knocking are an indication of the perseverence that is required in the Christian walk, day by day, in good times and bad.
Max Lucado writes, "Jesus waits on the porch. He stands on the threshold. He taps.... and calls. He waits for you to open the door. To pray is to open it. Prayer is the hand of faith on the door handle of your heart. The willing pull. The happy welcome to Jesus: "Come in, O King, come in.".....We speak, He listens. He speaks, we listen. This is prayer in it's purest form. God changes His people through such moments."
1
He leadeth me! O blessed thought,
O words with heav'nly comfort fraught;
Whate'er I do, where'er I be,
Still 'tis Christ's hand that leadeth me.
He leadeth me! He leadeth me!
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.
2
Sometimes 'mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom,
By waters still, o'er troubled sea,
Still 'tis His hand that leadeth me.
4
And when my task on earth is done,
When, by Thy grace, the vict'ry's won,
E'en death's cold wave I will not flee,
Since Thou in triumph leadest me.
Blessings,
Mike
Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. NIV
Effective Prayer
7 "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 "You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
