Verse of the Day 1/10

Through the Bible - Genesis 25-26, Romans 9:1-15

Good morning,
Our Pastor Bob's message this weekend was titled "Full Devotion".   I read the following quote this morning and it tied in well with that thought as well as the verses quoted yesterday from Colossians 2..

"If Jesus is who he says he is, and if his promises are as rewarding as the Bible claims they are, then we may discover that satisfaction in our lives and success in the church are not found in what culture deems most important but in radical abandonment to Jesus."— David Platt
For today's verse we'll return to Colossians 2, this time from the ESV.
Colossians 2:6-7 (English Standard Version) Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Receiving Jesus Christ the Lord, as Lord, is accepting and acknowledging Him as Lord of your life.  This may be perceived as radical abandonment, as being a fanatic to those who don't know Him as Lord.
Commentator Marcus Maxwell writes that the Colossians, that we, "have to walk, to live out their (and our) lives, but they have been given the basis for that life by God.  He has rooted, built up and established them in the faith.  This happened (and continues to happen) on receipt of the teaching that is contained in the gospel."

Read the verses and the passage again.  Think about them today.  Hold them up to your life.  If you've wandered, may you return to Christ and be rooted, built up and established in the faith, just as you were taught.
In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

Colossians 2  ESV

1For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, 2that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. 5For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

Alive in Christ
6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
