Verse of the Day - weekend 1/15

Through the Bible - Genesis 36-40, Roman 12-13

Good morning,
For this weekend's verses we'll continue with the theme of "all things" in the Bible and Paul's writings in particular.

Col 1:19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.   NIV
Jesus Christ is the head of the body, the church, He has the power, the authority over every part of it.  Just as He holds "all things" together (v.18), He reconciles "all things" to Himself.  Reconcile is an accounting term.  You call an accountant in to "reconcile" the books.  Christ makes all things right, He clears the book of our lives from the guilt of sin and puts us in a right relationship with God having made peace with the Father through His shed blood.

May His Word and the power of the Spirit in our lives keep us mindful of that, keep us near the cross, finding peace, healing, mercy, and rest in all things, all seasons of our lives.

Jesus, keep me near the cross;
there a precious fountain,
free to all, a healing stream,
flows from Calvary's mountain.
Refrain:
In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever,
till my raptured soul shall find
rest beyond the river.

 Near the cross, a trembling soul,
love and mercy found me;
there the bright and morning star
sheds its beams around me.
 Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
bring its scenes before me;
help me walk from day to day
with its shadow o'er me.
(Refrain)

Near the cross I'll watch and wait,
hoping, trusting ever,
till I reach the golden strand
just beyond the river.
Rom 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has become His counselor?"
35 'Or who has first given to Him
And it shall be repaid to him?"

36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.    NKJV
In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV
Col 1:15-24

The Preeminence of Christ

15  He is the image of  the invisible God,  the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created,  in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether  thrones or  dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created  through him and for him. 17 And  he is before all things, and in him all things  hold together. 18 And  he is the head of the body, the church. He is  the beginning,  the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For  in him all the  fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and  through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven,  making peace  by the blood of his cross.

21  And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind,  doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled  in his body of flesh by his death,  in order to present you holy and blameless and  above reproach before him, 23  if indeed you continue in the faith,  stable and steadfast, not shifting from  the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed  in all creation under heaven,  and of which I, Paul, became a minister.   ESV
