Verse of the Day 1/25

Through the Bible - Isaiah 9-10, Mark 3:20-35

Good morning,
The New Testament read through the Bible plan (above) has moved into the book of Mark.  Many scholars believe that it was the first of the gospels to be written.  It is the shortest of the gospels and can be read in about an hour and a half.  It moves at a fast pace which is highlighted by the word "immediately" which is used in this book more than in the other three gospels combined.  It could be shared among the churches by which the gospel, the message of Jesus could be proclaimed to the world.
For today's verse we'll go back to chapter one where Jesus begins His ministry.

Mark 1:14-15 (Amplified Bible)  Now after John was arrested and put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom of God,  15And saying, The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled (completed), and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent (have a change of mind which issues in regret for past sins and in change of conduct for the better) and believe (trust in, rely on, and adhere to) the good news (the Gospel).

You could picture Mark summing it up this way in a few words:

Mark 1:14-15 (The Message)  After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee preaching the Message of God: "Time's up! God's kingdom is here. Change your life and believe the Message."

The kingdom of God was at hand, His sovereign rule of salvation would come into the hearts of man at that time and into the future, to the present, to eternity.  That is good news, good news that was to be shared in spreading the gospel of Mark then, and in spreading His story today, across the street or around the world.  Change your life and believe the message..

We've a story to tell to the nations,
that shall turn their hearts to the right,
a story of truth and mercy,
a story of peace and light,
a story of peace and light.
Refrain:
For the darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright;
and Christ's great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light.

We've a message to give to the nations,
that the Lord who reigneth above
hath sent us his Son to save us,
and show us that God is love,
and show us that God is love.

Blessings,
Mike
