Verse of the Day 11/10

2 Timothy 3:16-17 New Living Translation (NLT) 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

The ESV translation finishes verse 17 with "thoroughly equipped" for good work.  If you look at a pro football player, they wouldn't think of heading out onto the field without their full armor (Eph. 6:10-18), they wouldn't line up without a helmet, pads and shoes.  If they tried to they'd get clobbered and have to be carried off the field in not time.  But does it stop there?  To be thoroughly equipped they have to have the knowledge of the plays and no the game plan to go up against that particular team.  They have practiced during the week working on their strengths and how to fully use them against the enemy and also working on their own weaknesses, knowing that their opponent will be trying to exploit them in these areas.

So it is in our Christian lives.  We must be fully equipped.  Looking the part won't be enough.  We need to know the difference between truth and falsehood, right from wrong and God's Word, read, studied and applied on the field in our lives will be a winning game plan.

Do your best today to head out as one who is thoroughly equipped, don't head out without God's word in your heart and mind.  It is your best offense and best defense against what life will throw at you today.

Blessings,
Mike

2 Timothy 3:14-17New Living Translation (NLT)

14 But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. 15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
