Verse of the Day 11/4

Verse of the Day

Colossians 2:6-7 English Standard Version (ESV)  6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

In yesterday's devotional Paul encouraged his readers with a prayer of blessing.  In today's verse, from today's New Testament reading, he encourages and challenges us to be "rooted" in Him.  This is a continual process, it will show in growth in our lives and roots that will go down into the fertile soil of faith giving us strength to stand in hope as we face the challenges we will face in the storms and  trials of life.

Paul David trip gives us an example of this faith and hope that is a benefit, a blessing that comes from being rooted in Him when he writes, "If you are God's child, you can have hope in the middle of all the tough things you face because in all those moments God is with you, but also because the cross of Jesus guarantees you that all that is broken will be made new forever. You can live today knowing that you have a future that is beyond the boundaries of your wildest imagination. If you are God's child, you have hope because God is hope, and you have a hope that will last forever because he has defeated the one thing that stands between you and forever: death."

We often hear a benediction at the end of a service reminding us of God's grace His blessing as a blessing is given -  " The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
      And give you peace."'

May you have and experience that today.   In church, and in our hearts, the doxology is often the response in thanksgiving.

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Amen

In Christ,
Mike

Through the Bible - Nahum 1-3, Colossians 2

Colossians 2:6-12 Amplified Bible (AMP)

6As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.

    7Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving.

    8See to it that no one carries you off as spoil or makes you yourselves captive by his so-called philosophy and intellectualism and vain deceit (idle fancies and plain nonsense), following human tradition (men's ideas of the material rather than the spiritual world), just crude notions following the rudimentary and elemental teachings of the universe and disregarding [the teachings of] Christ (the Messiah).
