Verse of the Day 9/18

Hebrews 3:7-8 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

Today, if you hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,   (HCSB)

In yesterday's passage in 1Kings 19, God called out to Elijah twice.  The second time in a gentle whisper to show him that He was not to be found in the events themselves.   God demonstrated His power in the events but spoke to Elijah quietly and directly.  In each instanceGod was teaching Elijah and after each instance He told him to go out.  Faith involves acting on God's promptings.

In today's passage in Hebrews the writer of the book quotes Psalm 95 and twice calls for his readers, his listeners "if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts" but to respond to His promptings.  We have the choice.  Will we obey and follow or will we harden our hearts?

Both passages remind us of the consequences of rebellion.  The readers, including us today, are challenged not to let history, our own, or theirs repeat itself.

Blessings,
Mike

Hebrews 3:7-11  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Warning against Unbelief

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

Today, if you hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,
and saw My works 10 for 40 years.
Therefore I was provoked with that generation
and said, "They always go astray in their hearts,
and they have not known My ways."
11 So I swore in My anger,
"They will not enter My rest."
