Verse of the Day 1/23

Matthew 16:15 "But you," He asked them, "who do you say that I am?"

16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!"  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Today's verse comes from daily reading of the read through the Bible plan.  It is one that should stop us in our tracks and ask ourselves that very question.  How we respond to it should determine how we live and serve as a reminder, a measure of how we are doing.

Ask the question on the streets and you might hear that He was a prophet, a tmoral eacher, a good person or perhaps a lunatic for saying some of the things that would be hard for people to accept today.

Others when asked if they believe in Jesus will give an objection about those in Africa, perhaps  other places that have never heard of Jesus, what about them?  Like the politicians, it dodges the question.  Yes, we are to be concerned about others, but God knows their hearts, He is just, He will deal with that question.  The real question is just as it is posed in today's verses.  It is about personal responsibility to those who have heard what Jesus, what the Bible, the apostles and Christians through the ages have said, that He is "the Messiah, the Son of the Living God."

The question is not just for today, it is one for the ages, the answer to which will determine our eternity.  The Message says, "He pressed them" for an answer.  He still does so today in many ways using many people.

In Christ,
Mike
