Verse of the Day 1/30

Psalm 119:15- I meditate on your precepts
    and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
    I will not neglect your word. NIV

Yesterday we considered what it meant to purify ourselves with the image of a surgeon preparing for surgery.  The next natural question is just how does a Christian keep his or her way pure?  The answer comes from and involves time spent in God's Word.  We find it in today's passage from Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible which focuses on the importance of God's Word.  I believe that it is all but 3 verses speak, in one way or another of God's Word in the form of decrees, precepts, commands, statutes and other words.

A good surgeon wouldn't think of going into surgery neglecting to scrub in, to go into the procedure without cleansing.   We as Christians should have the same attitude in our lives, we shouldn't think of not starting the day or not spending part of the day in His Word and in prayer, considering how we should live our lives each day.  The first verse in the passage ties in well with our thoughts from yesterday.

Psalm 119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure?   By guarding it according to your word.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Keeping it pure, purifying it, involves guarding it as well. A surgeon scrubs to guard against the possibility of infection or disease.  We guard our hearts to guard against spiritual heart disease, a cold hard heart.  How well are we doing in that area?

Psalm 119:11I have stored up your word in my heart,  that I might not sin against you.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Have God's Word stored in your heart to be better prepared for what is in store for the day.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 119:9-16

English Standard Version (ESV)

Beth

How can a young man keep his way pure?
    By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
    let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
    that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
    teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
    all the rules[a] of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
    as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
    and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
    I will not forget your word.
