Verse of the Day 6/5

1 Peter 1:12  It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Angels desire to look into these things.  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

For quite some time we've heard in the news that the national debt threatens our security, and that in effect we're putting a burden on future generations by how, as a nation, we're spending money today.  In yesterday's verse we considered our salvation and how the prophets of old studied and wrote for us, for their future generations of the faith.  Today's verse from the same passage reinforces that though.

Stop and take a look at some of the words and thoughts of today's verse.  Far from spending, taxing future generations, the prophets and those that have brought God's word to us today, have not been serving themselves but us and through us (hopefully), future generations.  God's Word has been "announced", declared to us by our pastors and teachers, who are delivering His Word in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The prophets looked to a future Savior who would come.   He came in the person of Jesus Christ.  We as Christians today look to the future to when He will come again, we should want to prepare our hearts and do what God calls us to do to reach others, perhaps future generations to come along.  We are not to be serving ourselves but future generations by following Him today.

In Christ,
Mike

1 Peter 1:11-13

Amplified Bible (AMP)

11 They sought [to find out] to whom or when this was to come which the Spirit of Christ working within them was indicating when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should follow [them].

12 It was then disclosed to them that the services they were rendering were not meant for themselves and their period of time, but for you. [It is these very] things which have now already been made known plainly to you by those who preached the good news (the Gospel) to you by the [same] Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Into these things [the very] angels long to look!

13 So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed.
