Verse of the Day 5/29

Isaiah 40:8  The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever."
New King James Version (NKJV)

I read the following statement in yesterday's "Grace Gems" and it made me think of today's verse.

"Never was there a time like the present, when Atheism and Infidelity appeared so determined, if possible, to annihilate the Christian religion! Behold their attempts. In schools and books, there is an incessant attempt to instill into the minds of the young, principles inimical to Christianity, as well as to draw professors from their steadfastness. Some have already split upon the rocks of Atheism--some have stranded on the quicksands of Infidelity. "

Sounds like it could have been written today by a pastor or perhaps the parent of a college student who has run into a professor whose main goal appears to be tearing down belief in God and His Word.  Trying to make it seem irrelevant.

The statement was written by William Nicholson in 1862, wow!  It should remind us that having those around us who are trying to tear down Christianity is nothing new.  Names of those who have stood against God in this way have come and gone.  God has been pronounced as dead by some through the past couple of centuries but more Bibles are being printed and more are believing worldwide that at the time when this was written.

Professors and others who try to take a stand against the Kingdom of God and His Word will come and go, but you can be sure of this,  the Word of God will stand forever.

David felt like William Nicholson when in Psalm 12:1  he cried "Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men!" God answered his prayers and he will answer those who call out to Him today.

In Christ,
Mike

Isaiah 40:6-8

The Message (MSG)
6-8 A voice says, "Shout!"
I said, "What shall I shout?"
"These people are nothing but grass,
    their love fragile as wildflowers.
The grass withers, the wildflowers fade,
if God so much as puffs on them.
Aren't these people just so much grass?
True, the grass withers and the wildflowers fade,
but our God's Word stands firm and forever."
