Verse of the Day 11/4

Verse of the Day 11/4

Titus 2:2-3 Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,    English Standard Version (ESV)

I don't feel old, (at least most days), but when you get information about AARP in the mail and you qualify for senior discounts at restaurants I guess it's time to admit that at least "technically" you're old.  If you question that, just ask a middle schooler what they think of as old, it would include anyone from their parents on up.  Joining that "club" has it's privileges such as discounts and in some cases respect, but it also has it's responsibilities.  Paul outlines some of these things in today's verses.   Many of us are in this group and Paul was somewhere in our age group when he wrote these words.

Older should also have to do with being more mature, and as Christians we should be mature in our faith and in our actions, born out of faith.  Paul refers to it as being "dignified", leading respectable and sensible lives.  At this stage when our bodies show signs of our age and we take medications to help us overcome physical ailments, we should be spiritually healthy.

For those of you who are in this "club", would you consider yourselves or more importantly, would others consider you to be sober minded, dignified, self controlled, sound in faith, in love and steadfast in these things?  If so, how are we "teaching" the next generation(s) to do the same.  Paul instructs Titus, and us, that it is our "job to speak out" (The Message) on these things.

"We don't want anyone looking down on God's Message because of our behavior" - v.4 The Message

Blessings,
Mike

Titus 2:1-6The Message (MSG)

A God-Filled Life

1-6 Your job is to speak out on the things that make for solid doctrine. Guide older men into lives of temperance, dignity, and wisdom, into healthy faith, love, and endurance. Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don't want anyone looking down on God's Message because of their behavior. Also, guide the young men to live disciplined lives.
