Verse of the Day 9/5

Verse of the Day 9/5
Matthew 11:27-28  All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. English Standard Version (ESV)

Yesterday we took a look at "faith" as exemplified  by the people in God's "hall of faith" in Hebrews 11.  We see that it was and is an active faith.  One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Romans 8 where we see Paul writing about "all things" in the span of a few verses.  "All  things  work  together for good " (v.28), "he will graciously give us all things" that we need (v.32); and "in  all these things we are more  than  conquerors" (v.37), in are trials  and tribulations.

In today's verses Matthew writes that "all  things" were handed over to Jesus by the Father.  He is in charge of all things, all situations and He has the ability to redeem, restore, refresh and  renew.  The key is in verse 28 where Jesus  says "come  to me" to find  rest in these situations, not  just superficial,  temporary  rest, but  rest for  your souls.  He  offers a "blessed assurance".  In verse 28 Jesus calls us to come to Him because  He is gentle.  Many times  in the Bible we read of  this gentleness, it is not  a weakness,  it  is  not  passive,  it  as  active, He will act for us in His power with offering us His grace,  His power  in our time  of need.

Are you in need  of  rest  today?  Are you in need of His  strength, power,  grace  and  peace?  Jesus says, "come  to me".  The active portion of  our  faith  is  to  go  to  Him.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love

Blessings,
Mike

Matthew 11:25-30New Living Translation (NLT)

Jesus' Prayer of Thanksgiving

25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.26 Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!
27 "My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
28 Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light."
