Verse of the Day 1/5

Verse of the Day 1/5

Joshua 1:9   Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  English Standard Version (ESV)

Talk about reading a verse that you needed to hear!  More on that in a minute, but it was the first verse I read this morning in a daily devotional that I read.

For yours I've referred to Romans 8:28 as my "life verse".  This stemmed from the challenges that have come up in my life, first my son Jeff's accident, subsequent TBI and the surrounding circumstances that led me to come to grips with the "all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purposes."  Studying God's Word, prayer and dealing with life's curve balls over the next couple of years helped me to come to grips with that verse and proclaim it.  My younger son Jason, was later diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor that God miraculously took away, literally.  We were told after Jeff's accident that he would never walk or talk again.   Well, he talks every day expressing his love and "thanking us for this wonderful life" literally every day, in spite of his injury.

Being able to take to heart the words from Joshua are rooted in the reality of the verse from Romans 8, and help to be able to apply this verse to the circumstances in life with hope, with confidence that God is at work and has  a plan for it all.

Recently, during some tests for another issue, it was revealed that my wife Jean has a large mass on her liver.  We are currently waiting to have a biopsy done on it.  We pray for good news in the situation claiming Romans 8:28 and trying to be "strong and courageous" in this situation because the Lord our God is with us.

I ask for your prayers for Jean and I today, that we would be strong and that God will work out everything for good, for His glory.

If you are facing your own challenges today, I pray that you would be able to be strong and courageous and not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go and whatever you face.

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my savior lives

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living, just because He lives

Blessings,

Mike

Joshua 1:6-9New Living Translation (NLT)

"Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
