Verse of the Day 7/13

Verse of the Day 7/13

Acts 16:30-31  Then he led Paul and Silas outside and asked, "What must I do to be saved?"

31 They answered, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved—you and all your family."  The Passion Translation (TPT)

Today's verses came up in the read through the New Testament plan that I am following.  As I read them I was reminded of the times that I served in the jail ministry at our church back in Illinois.  One Sunday a month a group of guys from our church would minister to the inmates at the county jail on Sunday nights, sharing a message from the Word and asking if anyone would like to follow Jesus and receive Him as their Savior.

In today's passage, the situation was reversed.  Paul and Silas found themselves as prisoners, but they were able to witness to the jailer and share their faith based on and because of their actions, putting their faith on display.  Paul and Silas were prepared to share the gospel and instruct the jailer with the simple gospel message "Believe in the Lord Jesus" and be saved.  Believing is putting your faith and trust in Him and His teachings, committing to following Him as He leads you through life.

Have you ever had anyone ask you "what must I do to be saved"?  These verses should challenge us to be ready with the answer at anytime and anyplace.  They should also remind us that our walk, our day to day actions in life should prompt people to notice something different in us that would lead to those questions.

2 Timothy 4:2  proclaim the Word of God and stand upon it no matter what! Rise to the occasion and preach when it is convenient and when it is not. Preach in the full expression of the Holy Spirit[a]

—with wisdom and patience as you instruct and teach the people.

Acts 16:26-34 New King James Version (NKJV)

26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all here."

29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

31 So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.
