Verse of the Day 7/12

Verse of the Day 7/12

Psalm 1:3-4  He will be standing firm like a flourishing tree
planted by God's design,
deeply rooted by the brooks of bliss,
bearing fruit in every season of his life.
He is never dry, never fainting,
ever blessed, ever prosperous.

But how different are the wicked.
All they are is dust in the wind—
driven away to destruction!
The Passion Translation (TPT)

Today's verses from Psalm 1 give us the stark contrast of the life of one whom God has planted and draw from His life giving water every day of his or her life.  As Paul encouraged and challenged us in Philippians 4:9 to "keep putting into practice" all we've learned the person referenced here will stand firm and bear fruit in every season of life.

Those who reject God and who think that they can make it through life and into eternity on their own are like the dust, the chaff which is blown away.  Reading of the chaff should bring to mind several other Bible references.

Charles Spurgeon in a sermon from 1859 writes, "to be godly is to have a constant eye to God, to recognize Him in all things (think of Romans 8:28-39), to trust Him, to love Him, to serve Him.  And the ungodly man is one who does not have an eye to God in his daily business, who lives in the world as if there were no God; while he attends to all the outward ceremonies of religion; he never goes to the core, never enters into their secret heart and their deep mysteries."

The "blessed man", going back to verse one, will have his eye, his heart, his mind on God all the days of his life.

O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee!
Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
  Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

Blessings,

Mike

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]

ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he [b]

meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree
Planted by the [c]

rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.  New King James Version
