Verse of the Day 11/14

Verse of the Day 11/14

2 Timothy 3:14 Yet you must continue to advance in strength with the truth wrapped around your heart, being assured by God that he's the One who has truly taught you all these things. The Passion Translation (TPT)

In my devotions this morning I read Luke 21:19 which states "By your endurance you will gain you souls." By gaining our souls Luke is referring to our salvation. It comes by faith, but we have to persevere, to press on, to run the race as we read elsewhere throughout the New Testament. These things were still in mind when I read today's verse.

In reading the short passage below we recognize that we are in a similar society to seems to be going from bad to worse, a world full of deception. Notice a couple of small words in each of these translations, the TPT says "yet you" and the NKJV says "but you" that begin the verse. We are to be different, to go against the grain, having God's Word wrapped around our hearts with His assurance for our souls.

The New Testament reading plan that I am following is in Hebrews and tomorrow will be in chapter 11 and the "Hall of Faith". It is all about people who by their endurance, through their faith and trust in God "gained their souls" as mentioned in Luke 21:19.

I read Hebrews 11 on what, up to that time, would be the most difficult and challenging days of my life with our son Jeff's accident. Through that time and in the years following and new trials, it was God's Word wrapped around my heart, our hearts in faith that carried us through and will carry us.

The final verse in Hebrews 10, part of this mornings reading is fitting.

Hebrews 10:39 English Standard Version (ESV)

39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

Blessings,

Mike

2 Timothy 3:13-17 New King James Version (NKJV)

13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
