Verse of the Day 7/19

Verse of the Day 7/19

Proverbs 3:5-6
New International Version
Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight

Each day in my devotions I read a portion of the "wisdom literature" of the Bible, Psalms through Ecclesiastes. Today's verses recently came up in my reading in Proverbs.  You've probably heard people say "it is my understanding that...".  I'm sure that you've used that statement yourself in regards to many things.  It is wise to make educated decisions but the important thing is how did we arrive at those decisions.  They shouldn't just be popular opinion, they need to be based on reliable and time tested "truth's".  Unfortunately, when it comes to salvation many people have come up with their own theology about salvation and it is not based on God's Word and what He has laid out for us in the Bible. People choose what they want to hear and all too often reject the truth of God's Word.

Notice the verse says in "all your ways".  It is all encompassing, it is in regards to every aspect of life.  We should base decisions on God's Word, His timeless truths.  His Word will not steer you wrong, instead, it will point you down the right path for your life, now and forever.

I'm reminded of the old hymn "On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand".  The words that popped into my mind were "but wholly lean on Jesus name".  Jesus was the word incarnate, made flesh.  You won't go wrong by following what He said and taught.  The gospels contain the teachings of Jesus and if you want a place to start, you might try reading the "Sermon on the Mount" in Matthew 5 -7 and submit to what He says.  He will straighten your path. Those other philosophies are "sinking sand".

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Blessings,
Mike

Proverbs 3:1-6
New King James Version

Guidance for the Young

My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you.

Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and [a]high esteem
In the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall [b]

direct your paths.
