Verse of the Day 7/20

Verse of the Day 7/20

Matthew 7:13-14
The Voice

There are two paths before you; you may take only one path. One doorway is narrow. And one door is wide. Go through the narrow door. For the wide door leads to a wide path, and the wide path is broad; the wide, broad path is easy, and the wide, broad, easy path has many, many people on it; but the wide, broad, easy, crowded path leads to death. 14 Now then that narrow door leads to a narrow road that in turn leads to life. It is hard to find that road. Not many people manage it.

In yesterday's post we considered Solomon's advice from Proverbs 3:5-6 not to lean on our own understanding but trust the Lord to lead us on "straight paths".   God's Word is always straight wit us.  It doesn't lead us wrong, it may not be easy, but His ways are the right ways.

As I thought of the "straight paths" my mind went to Jesus teaching from the sermon on the mount and the "narrow way".  It is a short passage (Matt. 7:12-14 below) but it has a good, strong message and reminder for us not to listen to those who promote and "easier" way to live our lives.

The Voice paraphrase above begins with "there are two paths before you".  Which will you take, which have you been on.  As the old rock'n roll song said "yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on".

We'll finish with a few more verses from Solomon in Proverbs 4 instructing us to walk away from the path that is wide.

Proverbs 4:14-15
New Living Translation

Don't do as the wicked do,
and don't follow the path of evildoers.
15 Don't even think about it; don't go that way.
    Turn away and keep moving.

Blessings,
Mike

Matthew 7:12-14
English Standard Version

The Golden Rule

12 "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

13 "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
