Verse of the Day 11/13
20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."
Our Monday Men's Bible study began a study in the book of Job today. Job is a book that people often turn to when going throiugh trials, most often asking "why did this happen to me". Job has to deal with financial loss with enemies stealing livestock, then deals with tragedy and the loss of his family, and the loss of his possesions. In all this he did not ask God "why" or "what did I do to deserve this", instead he tore his clothes as an outward sign of repentance and worshipped God.
I've been taught by the lives of family members - father, wife, children, that the question is not so much "why' but moreso, "what" or "where"? What am I to do and where am I to go from here while continuing to trust in God, not being kept "under the circumstances" but keeping our view on what lies ahead, where God will lead us in and through this time.
I'm reminded of one of my favoritie passages in Romans where Paul wirtes "in all these things (hardships and trials), we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ". If you are facing a trial today. You may ask why, but moreso, ask what? Read the passage from Romans below, may you trust and draw near to God and realize/experience that we are more than conquerors .
God's Everlasting Love
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,
"For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
