Verse of the Day 11/6

Verse of the Day 11/6

Hebrews 1:1-2
English Standard Version

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

The New Testament reading plan that I follow is now in the book of Hebrews.  Today's verses tell us of how God has spoken to us through the prophets and then through Jesus Christ, who was with the Father before the creation of the world.  The "last days" spoken of refer to the time after Jesus, the Messiah had come, we are in those last days.

In John 17, Jesus' "High Priestly Prayer" Jesus states that He had "manifested" the Father's name to His people.  Jesus revealed the Father, put Him on display in the flesh.

John 17:6
English Standard Version

"I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

Pastor James Smith writes, "Heavenly Father, as You have chosen us out of the world, give us grace to live above the world; and enable us to glorify You in the world! Make us like your beloved Son, who was holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners. Oh, to live in this world as strangers and pilgrims--as those whose treasure is above, and whose hearts are there also! "

God speaks to us today through His Word, revealing who He is through His Son as we are guided through the Word by the Holy Spirit working in our lives.  May He give us the grace to live above the world and for Him.

Blessings,
Mike

The Supremacy of God's Son

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
